Five Ways to Spread the Love this Holiday Season

Throughout the holiday season, there is a lot of talk about being thankful and practicing gratitude for all of the wonderful things in our lives. After all, we spend a lot of time over the holidays with our friends and family reminiscing about all the things we are thankful for throughout the year. Here at Katie K Active, we are grateful for each and every one of you! Gratitude is such a powerful emotion that has even been proven to help change the way we think, act and feel. But how can we practice gratitude? How can we show others how thankful we are? How can we spread love and positivity everywhere we go? Here are five easy ways to get in the true spirit of this holiday season.

Pay it Forward: Remember that popular expression, “practice random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty?” Today, this concept is referred to as “paying it forward.” Paying it forward is all about receiving an act of kindness and doing something kind for another person rather than simply just accepting original good deed. It’s about keeping that exchange of goodness and love going! Personally, we’ve experienced the concept of paying it forward while waiting in line at the coffee drive-through! The cars ahead of us kept paying for the order of the customers behind them, starting a chain reaction of kindness. How cool is that? Now, are we saying that this is what you have to do to pay it forward? Absolutely not! But if somebody does you a solid favor, why not repay it to another person! Keep that train of positivity chugging throughout the holiday season by spreading love and cheer, everywhere you go.

Volunteer: One of the best ways to spread love throughout the holidays is to volunteer to help others. You can get involved with a local nonprofit organization that supports women, children, or even animals. This time of year, many organizations are looking for volunteers to help with holiday food drives, warm clothing donations and delivering presents to those in need. A quick online search should pull up a variety of nonprofits in your area. Find one that really speaks to you and encourage your whole family to get involved.

Post about Positivity: If you are like us, we are willing to bet that you have at least one social media account. Whether it be Instagram or Facebook, you have a platform and an opportunity to spread positivity throughout your newsfeed. These days, it seems like social media is riddled with negativity. Why not switch things up by posting about things you are thankful for! In fact, you could even do a 30-day challenge where every day, you share something that brings you gratitude and joy. Encourage your followers to do the same! The point is to focus on sharing posts that are positive and uplifting. We are willing to bet that doing this will not only make you feel good, but it will make your followers feel happier as well.

Bring Homemade Treats to your Coworkers: If you work in an office building, surprise everybody by bringing in some delicious homemade treats! There are plenty of recipes online for healthy cookies and nourishing holiday baked goods. If baking isn’t your thing, why not make some DIY ornaments? You can go to the craft store and get clear glass ornaments for an affordable price. Use paint pens to draw doodles and fun designs that you think your coworkers will love. You can even include a little hand-written letter of appreciation for all of your coworkers, letting them know how thankful you are to have them on your team. Not only will this help to boost office morale, it will leave you feeling happy knowing you surprise your office with a random act of kindness.

Take Care of the Environment: We know, we know. The cold winter season can make going outside a bit unbearable.  But nothing warms you up quite like knowing that you are doing something good for the environment! This holiday season, organize a team of friends and family to pick up trash at a local park, beach or forest. You can even walk around your neighborhood and clean up liter that may be resting on the side of the road. Doing something that is good for our Earth is a wonderful way to show how appreciative you are for the beauty of clean air and nature. Another great way to protect the environment is to plant a tree. You can buy seeds online and schedule a family outing to scatter the seeds in an area that could use some extra foliage. Have fun and get creative with ways that you can spend the holidays protecting the environment.

Now, we want to hear from you! How will you spread love and holiday cheer this season? What are you thankful for? Head on over to our social media accounts and tell us all about it.
